Here’s a revised, more relatable version:
πΏ Do you ever feel like your mind and body are living in two different rooms?
You’re sitting in a meeting, but you’re really back at home replaying an argument. You’re hugging your child, but your head is stuck on tomorrow’s deadline. Sound familiar? That’s what disconnection from self feels like β your body is here, but “you” are somewhere else entirely.
Mindfulness-based counselling helps close that gap. It’s not about emptying your mind or becoming a different, calmer person overnight. It’s about practising small moments of actually being where you are β so your thoughts and your body start living in the same room again.
β¨ Mindfulness doesn’t need a meditation cushion. Try weaving it into things you already do:
- Showering β instead of planning your day, notice the water temperature, the sound, the smell of the soap
- Walking to the car or office β feel your feet hitting the ground, notice 3 things around you
- Making tea or coffee β pay attention to the pouring, the steam, the first sip, instead of scrolling while it brews
- Washing dishes β notice the warmth of the water and the textures, instead of rushing through it
- Driving β turn the radio off for 5 minutes and just notice your hands on the wheel, your breath
None of these need extra time. They just need attention you’re already capable of giving.
At Cogniva Counselling, we help clients build this kind of self-connection gently, at a pace that fits real life β not just in therapy sessions, but in the everyday moments in between.
